Brazilian gay activist Francisco de Oliveira Técio Soares was found stabbed to death today in his beauty salon in the northeastern town of Crato. Técio, 38, was found naked with four stab wounds, police told A Tarde newspaper, making him the fourth gay man murdered in the area in the last two years.

Initial investigations indicate the crime may have been one of passion; nothing was taken from the store, including about US$250 the activist was carrying. Police suspect Técio fought with his killer, receiving stab wounds to the nose, throat, stomach and shoulder. No one has been arrested, the paper reported.

The victim has been active in the gay rights movement for 25 years, organizing four Gay Pride parades in Crato. At last year's parade, Técio was named "Godmother of the Movement." He will be buried in Maracanaú, in his home region of Fortaleza.
